Audition Tips

Listen to online recordings of the excerpt to determine accurate intonation, rhythm, articulation, etc

Play etudes and scales slowly and gradually increase the tempo

Repeat measures and lines of the pieces many times

Practice recording yourself and playing all the required components of your audition in one take

Ask your private lesson teacher to help you learn the audition material
Audition FAQS
1) When are the auditions?
A: Auditions are held from late April to early May. Audition material will be released in January of the respective year.
2) Is memorization required for my audition pieces?
A: No, memorization is not required.
3) When and how will I find out the results of my audition?
A: You will find out the orchestra that you have been placed in through your course schedule available on HAC on August 4th, 2025. Check the class periods below to know what orchestra you are placed in.
The class periods for each orchestra are:
1) 2A - Symphony Orchestra - Varsity - Orchestra A
2) 3B - Philharmonic Orchestra - Non-Varsity - Orchestra B
3) 2B - Sinfonia Orchestra - Sub Non-Varsity A - Orchestra C
4) 4B - Sinfonia Orchestra - Sub Non-Varsity B - Orchestra D
5) 3A - Sinfonia Orchestra - Sub Non-Varsity C - Orchestra E
* The orchestras highlighted in gold will combine for every orchestra concert but will be conducting rehearsals in their separate class periods
